Elusive and Rare MB 500E (non-Audi)

Does anyone know anything about the Mercedes-Benz 500E?

I saw one for the second time in downtown Boston -- what a nice looking
car!  It reminds me of the S4 with the flared wheel wells and wide
position.  Gorgeous interior.

Apparently -- I just found this out -- Porsche designed the engine (maybe
more) -- and it's the fastest production MB sedan existing at 322bhp..

Love to hear from anyone who knows anything about this car..
