Wooddruff key-Resolution?

First thanks to Bob, knotnook, Tony, Phil and Superba for your advice.
I cannot get total confirmation that the key was built into gear, but I
can remember that I did have to align a notch into the groove on the cam
shaft. I did not see the half nickel type key. So I am hoping that I am
ok. If anyone has done a timing belt change on an 88 and can remember that
it was built in- drop me a note so I don't get the urge to remove
everything and check it again.
