RE: Is TTq long. or transverse.

the engine is tranverse with the normal transverse gearbox and a central
rearwards power take-off.

i imagine there is also a central differential around the power take-off to
split the power 90 degrees to the rear. the haldex clutch is mounted ahead
of the rear differential, so Is not a part of the gearbox.

at the moment (not having seen a ttq or a3q up on a hoist) existence of the
central differential is hypothesised by yours truly to 1) explain the
ability to split the power train 90 degrees and 2) to explain the term
"full-time awd" which, on understanding the haldex is clearly no more
accurate for that device than it is for a viscous differential.

Having read the R&T and C&D articles on the TT, it is clear
that the
engine is mounted transversely in the engine bay. Or, as
some would
say, the 'wrong' way. I am wondering if the engine is
mounted
longitudinally for the quattro version to facilitate the
driveline
going to the rear wheels as well. So, those of you in the
know, which
is it - 'right' or wrong'? And is there a compelling reason
Audi went
the wrong way for the front-driver?
