83 4000S TD various

Hi,

I just bought this car on Saturday; it's my first Audi, and first diesel. I'm 
waiting for the arrival of a Bentley but want to do a bit of workon it tomorrow 
so would appreciate some insight from the list in the meantime.

1. This car has no radio. Looking through the hole I see a metal box floating 
around with "Hella" written on it, many wires disconnected, and several wires 
melted. Can someone please identify:
a) the Hella box
b) where it should be affixed
c) two gray wires with blue stripes
d) a plain brown wire
e) which wires should be illuminating the volt and oil temp gauges
f) what connectors go to where on a radio

2. What stuff do I have to remove to get at the thermostat (wow! is it buried!)

3. Where's the flasher unit for  the turn signals?

That should keep me busy for a while. BTW, you guys who are concerned about 
your fuel pump - the one on the diesel engine runs from the timing belt - 1500 
psi at the injectors, I'm told.
