Since my postings of about an hour ago, I've been out to retrieve the
ur-quattro from a small village about eight miles away.  'er indoors
has gone off bellringing in the Passat, and I have an ur-quattro on
the ramps downstairs with a dead hydraulic pump.  As a pump, it's
doing fine.  As a noise abatement device - not so well.  Once the
slightest load is put on it (1/2 turn of lock, five brake depressions)
it squeals its little heart out.  I suppose there's an outside chance
it's the belt ...

As far as I know it's wholly original, and the odo says '166666' today.
