Rearview Mirror Fix
Finally got the rearview mirror on my A6 fixed.
Here's the lowdown.
1 For those cars with a windshield mounted mirror w/o a set screw
holding the mounting button into the stalk. The button is easily pried
out with a small flathead screwdriver, it is held in place with a spring
clip. Also remove stalk from mirror back.
2 After removing the button, be sure to note the correct orientation
when mounted on the glass. Narrow notched area goes at the bottom (i.e.
closer to the dash) and the T shaped area where the clip engages should
be parallel to the wind shield's width.
3 Reattach button to the window following adhesive instructions,
recommend Loctite mirror adhesive. Be sure to get the glass and button
really clean. Instructions say to allow adhesive to set for 15 min. I
would wait several hours at least.
4. Reattach stalk to button by placing it over the button at 90 degree
angle from correct orientation, and twist the stalk down to its correct
position. Reattach mirror, align mounting hole, with mirror at a slight
angle, and just a good push will get it back on.
2 bucks(US) for the loctite, and at least an hour at the dealer, not to
mention what they would charge you, saved and your as good as new.
