Spoke too soon--4kcsq no start --help please

Okay, so my 87 4kcsq that I thought was a loose fuel pump relay
connection got me to work (ran fine--no sign of trouble) but then
wouldn't start tonight. Same symptoms--the fuel pressure regulator under
the hood buzzes lightly, no sounds of life from the fuel pump (it's very
quiet, but I can normally hear it when I first turn on the key--now
nothing). When I first crank it over, it sounds like it's going to
start--so it seems to be firing and burning off the remants of fuel. 

Anyway, I'm still suspicious of that relay. Can anyone with a bentley
handy tell me the procedure for testing the fuel pump relay? 

Anyone else think I'm barking up the wrong tree?
