The tire weight would not necessarily be strictly additive, as you imply.  I
would assume that a 50 series tires weighs less than a 70 series tire, all
other things being equal, no.  It may be a wash in terms of total mass.

Anyone have weights on the types of tires that would be appropriate on these
kinds of rims?
