The module should be (wher it always was on older cars) basically behind
the radio. A silver box about 1 x 3 x 5 inches. The "test connector"
just taps into 3 of the 8 wires going to it.
My Bentley goes into a detailed troubleshooting guide, most of which
ascertains the integrity of your wiring, and contains only one error...
I am on the verge of condensing it onto my cruise file but haven't yet.
What was the anomolous behaviour you mention?
the wiring tests will indicate step by step the functioning of every
component (you just check resistance of the inductuve pickup at the
speedo) except the actual operation of the ecu. the tests are done by
unplugging the ecu (which if you're lucky can be done without major
dismantling) and attaching various ground/12v leads to the 8 pin
connector.
