I've asked several people with reasonable amounts of V8Q
experience, and no one seems to know.  Besides
starting and running, I drove around with the distributor
disconnected for a week.  Only real difference I noted was
a bit of surging.  I'm just guessing, but it's probably a
"limp home" feature programmed into the ECU maybe?
