I'll cc this to everyone because the game is so good:
 
If you (or your son) is into true driving games, rather than the
shoot-em-up variety, I highly recommend "Grand Prix Legends" from
Papyrus. It's terrific, though you need a Voodoo2 for it to run well and
look good. 

No Audis in the 1967 Grand Prix field, of course, but you can modify the
paint on the cars, so that you could create an Auto Union-looking car.
