One more thing on cone-type air intakes: you're likely to be intaking 
the wrong air.  That is to say a cone will intake air coming from 
throughout the engine bay.  Not good.  What you want is cooler air from 
outside, cars usually have ducting to help this situation.

I do imagine you could come up with some sort of ducting that would 
maximize cool air to a cone filter.  I know that in the lowered-Honda 
crowd, those that are serious in drag racing (we're talking et's in the 
11s! with tiny motors) take out the headlight closest to the filter to 
assist in air intake.
