Re: Groaning (then non-working) electric windows
Word of warning:
If, in the fact, the problem is that the cable that makes your window go
up and down has crossed up on the spool (it may have in fact finally
broken, like mine did), it is not a simple thing to fix. When I first
ID'd the problem, I thought, "No sweat, I get some new cable and ferols
(sp?) at the hardware store and I'll be back in business in no time." I
tried FOUR times to do it, each time, it took at least 2 hours, and each
time, although I learned something, the cable would get all tangled up
again. Once it was kinked, it was back to the hardware store for $4.06
worth of parts.
The better solution:
I finally went to the junk yard, and pulled the whole assembly, minus
the motor, off a similar car, for $20. It has worked fine since.
