Re: meaning of s and cs
<<The question I have is what does the C and the S stand for?>>
CS supposedly indicates the higher trim level. From observation it seems that
the 4KSQs had roll down rear windows and electric fronts, the CS models had
four electric windows. I am not sure if the 4KSQ and 4KCSQ were available in
the same model year, but I think so. I do know that the SQ and CSQ 5K bodies.
In 1986 the 5KCS trim level was available without quattro, so there are a few
of those cars in the U.S. In '87 and later (as I understand it) quattro could
only be had with the CS trim level. The CS option seems to indicate leather
and automatic climate control. I have not seen a "S" level car with anything
except manual temp controls. I have seen leather in at least one "S" level
car.
Ti mentioned that there was a nomenclature change, which could be part of it.
But I do know that both "S" and "CS" exist in some model years, so it was not
totally related to a change from one madel year to the next.
As with so many things regarding Audis, there are as many exceptions to the
rules as there are different rules. So the above is not definitive, but based
on observation and info from dealers.
Later.
