    Your shift interlock may not be working. These cars require the brake
pedal to be depressed before the shift lever can be moved from "park" - if
this interlock system fails, the lever will be locked in "park". There may
be a way around this - I had the same problem on my '93 Chev van and
bypassed the interlock by turning the ignition key one "click" forward so
that the steering was unlocked but there was no power to the ignition. I
could then shift the tranny into "neutral" and start the van. The tranny
could be shifted as normal from there. Since there was no power on the
ignition, the interlock system "saw" the van as not running and allowed the
tranny to be shifted into "neutral".
    I don't know if this is possible on your Audi, but it might be worth a
try.
