Re: quattro candidate

I've owned a '91 TQW for the past 5 years (bought it at 24k and it currently has
87k), it is my 4th Audi. I use it as my primary winter car and surrender it to
my wife when the roads are slippery - we live in the Boston area. She's not
into cars at all, but is okay with a 5 speed.

The big stuff hasn't broken (yet), but be prepared for very heavy, pita type
maintenance. In addition to scheduled maintenance, I have replaced the
ignition switch (ouch!), starter, alternator (twice), hydraulic pump, rear hatch
struts, both headlamp assemblies, sanded and repainted the wheels, both front
brake rotors (very expensive "ufo" type), and still the list grows. The quality
of materials and engineering that goes into the component parts is substandard.
It's worn me down to the point where I've decided to sell it and spend big bucks
and get an A8 or import a Euro S8 - something with a warranty!

Btw, I think that $14k is a bit stiff, since I'm going to sell mine for a net of
about $10k.

Good luck,
