5ks tranny died......New Passat imminent

Hi all. My dad's 87 5ks died on the road today. Transmission started
slipping and now, there is no power whatsoever transferred to the wheels. My
dad has always wanted a new Passat and he was planning to acquire one this
summer but since his car broke today and he doesnt want to fix the car right
now(he just rebuilt the auto tranny in my 86 5kcst with great success).
Plus, mom is fed up with him being under the car all the time. To make a
long story short, my dad wants to get a '99 VW Passat GLS wagon with a
(mandatory) 5sp manual tranny. Since we live in the Washington dc area, I
was wondering whether anyone has any recommendations of any dealers in the
area that are good to deal with and which ones to avoid. Most likely, he'll
be getting the base version as they come with a LOT of standard equipment.
He hasn't started calling around yet but any dealer recommendations would be
appreciated. Thanks
