RE: Techron kerosene?

It's my understanding that MOST fuel cleaner/additives are mostly kerosene
(a.k.a. #1 fuel oil or white gas). Kerosene is used as a BASE for many
gasoline engine cleaner/additives because in small quantities (10-20 oz. per
tankful) it doesn't have any adverse affects on your engine performance. If
you look at a bottle of cleaner/additive, the first ingredient is usually
"petroleum distillate" (usually kerosene). That's the base ingredient
however. The question you have to ponder is whether or not you think the
kerosene is doing the "cleaning" or whether the kerosene is just a
combustible "carrier" for the detergents and additives that are contained in
smaller quantities - i.e. the undisclosed chemical compound known as
Techron. Personally, I think a bottle of Techron or LubroMoly Jectron once
in a while isn't a bad idea. Adding strait kerosene...I'll pass. Now
products like Gunk Motor Flush (the stuff you pour into your engine to
remove varnish) are indeed pure kerosene. You could save a buck or two by
picking up a gallon of Coleman kerosene in that case, but as for fuel
additives, I'm reluctant to think that the kerosene is the "active
ingredient" if you will.

Sorry, my mistake in a rush to get to class.

It said: kerosene and Techron are basically the same and do the same job
(I doubt this). I
would be very hesitant to use kerosene in my engine.Anyone ever had tried
this? I would think that it wouldn't burn very clean and may not be a good
thing for injectors in gas engines. It was on a miata or some junk like
that site.
