One of my favorite stories comes from T.E. Lawrence (i.e., "of Arabia")
who related a field repair of a Model T in the desert. (I think this
must have come from "Seven Pillars of Wisdom" but I can't be sure.)
Anyway, the Ford needed a new journal for one of the crank arms. They
fashioned one from the leather strap of a sandal and it worked fine.
Lawrence swore that of all the cars in the world, he trusted only two
makes in the desert-- Rolls Royce, because they never broke, and the
Model T, which broke all the time but could be repaired by anyone.
