Subject: Coolant expansion tank cap ?
My '92 100 seems to lose coolant from time to time through the cap on the
coolant reservoir (like tonight in the garage!) . Do these caps have
pressure regulators or the like built into them to relieve excess pressure
when needed? My car does not run hot, but always seems to have a lot of
pressure in the coolant system. Any ideas?

My 97 A4 2.8Q had a similar problem from day 1, with coolant leaking
from the small diameter hose leading into the top of the tank at the joint.
The dealer tried every thing, 2 replacement tanks (thought that the nipple was cracked), numerous versions of hose clamps, etc.
Finally they replaced the cap.
Not a hint of the pink stuff all over my valve cover cowling since..... So
the cap was the culprit after all. You must have the same V6, but I'm not
sure if you have the expansion tank set up..... It is worth a try to replace it
though.
