RE: Intro & 200q parts wanted

Welcome to the list Samir.

An excellent timing belt faq is Scott Mockry's at
http://www.teleport.com/~scottmo
You will need two "special" tools which is talked about in the faq.
I did the timing belt/water pump/idler pulley/pulley seal ac/alt/hyd belt
job by following the faq.
Not a bad job but plan a whole weekend for your first time. Some discount
mail order places have a
kit including all the parts/seals etc

Scott's site has good info about "upgrading"

Let me know if you have any questions about timing belt.
Regards,
Gurdev

Subject: Intro & 200q parts wanted

Hi everyone. I just joined the list and thought I'd introduce myself. My
name is Samir Shah, & I live in Stamford, CT. I just commited to buy a
Silver 90 200 quattro wagon with 118k miles. Besides this car, I have a
BMW 635 (for sale), BMW 530i, a Lotus Elan, and an Alfa GTV6 (track car,
rolled last year, not fixed yet). I do most of the work on the cars
myself.

The car is going to get an inspection on Monday. As long as nothing
major is wrong, I'll be the new owner. However, I'm sure its going to
need the timing belt changed. How hard is this job? Anyone written up a
cheat sheet or a FAQ?

I'm also looking for a set of Bentley manuals for the car. Anyone have
a used set for sale? How about used Euro headlights?

Also in the market for an upgraded ECU. Anyone have a used one? I need
more power! There seem to be a number of 'tuners' out there - TAP,
Hoppen, etc. Whats the verdict of the list as to which ones are
reliable. Would love to hear opinions from people who have instaleld
modified computers.

Any other tips would be appreciated. What else should I watch out for?
Any dedicated web sites out there?

Thanks in advance. You guys are really prolific. I may need to cut off
some of my other e-mail subscriptions.

Samir.
