Re: Weirdest Thing: Air Compression / Fan Belts

In a message dated 99-03-02 00:03:43 EST, you write:

<< The belt was fine in
front of the engine but had been turned inside out in and stuck on the rim
in front of the air compressor. Since over two years the belt had not been
touched nor was loose today at all. The belt now has a center line that is
a silver metal color and is in working condition. >>

I have seen this maybe a half dozen times in my life but am still not sure
what does it. Anyone else have any theories? I have thought it might be due
to the belt being loose, misalignment between the pulleys, loose accessory
mount or bushings, or some type of object being thrown up (i.e. a stone) and
running through that pulley turning the belt over. Never seems to cause any
damage beyond the belt. Just check it and then roll it back over.
I'd be interested to hear other theories on this one.
