Owning an Audi and driving in Germany have both taught me there are much more
important factors in safe travel than speed. The original design properties
of the vehicle, the maintance/inspection of these operating systems, and the
skills and common sense of the driver are all much more important than the
velocity. I have felt safer and more at ease at 170 mph on a public highway
than I have being "chaufeured" at 55. I would much rather have my kids
travel 10 hrs on the interstate at 100 mph belted in the Audi with me driving
than have them driven cross town in some junk with bald tires, shot
brakes/shocks, and a driver that doesn't know or care enough to give a $hit.
I read you said that you can't anticipate what other drivers will do. That's
strange because I do just that on every trip, everyday. I thought it was
called "defensive driving" or some such nonsense. If you're SO scared of all
us high speed unguided missiles out there, sell the Audi, move to D.C., take
public transportation, and become a lobbist for NTSB. I see a new book
"Unsafe at any speed"-(above 55). You've got alot more to be scared about
than me running into you, believe me.
