Re: A4 1.8T

Danger Will Robinson!

Audi+Audi Sport have been quoted to the effect of:
"The 1.8 turbo wasn't designed for anything above 200hp."

You're tempting SERIOUS fate if you go above 200hp. That is a TINY
motor, ladies+gents; it produces significantly less power than even
the 10v 5-cylinder.

It is NOT the bulletproof 2.23 litre 5-banger we all know and love
that is vastly overbuilt.

If you don't believe me, ask any of the dozen or so people that have
blown up engines. TAP, and others, are shamelessly selling these
unreliable upgrades.

If you want HP increases, try finding a better intercooler and/or
install a water injection system and go with the exhaust upgrades.
If you chip the ECU, stick to non-agressive chips that don't go
overboard. Chips are the easy way out.

For those of you running chips, I suggest a regular cleanout of your
IC, if it is easily accessable. Most a4 owners haven't put enough
milage on as I have on my 200q, but at 120k miles, I flushed out a
considerable amount of sand, grit, and bugs from my IC, as well as
lots of grime inside(I removed that by soaking the IC in hand dish
washing liquid.)
