New type turbo in SCC
Q-List,The latest Sport Compact Car (April) has a write-up on a new
Garrett Turbo. Doesn't work of the exhaust manifold. The turbine wheel
is driven by a hydraulic motor, no waste gate required either. Boost can
be controled by a valve regulating the drive oil. Can be mounted
anywhere the supply and return lines will reach. (Say where the battery
is on the 4kq drawing fresh cool air from the vent area near the
windshield).
Obvious benefits, no turbo cooking the intake.Can use the coupe GT
exhaust manifold/down pipe or tubular headers. Boost limit controlled by
dump valve. It was being developed for diesel trucks but has attracted
the interest of "tuners". Read the article and your imagination will do
the rest. Sounds like it has potential!
