More wheel bearing stuff...
Hi!
More on the front wheel bearing for the 200t...
I have found FAG bearings locally. They're $25 each!
They're marketed by the PartQuip group here in South Africa,
and the supplier is giving me a discount. Sure beats
$122 per bearing from the agents! They have Timken as well,
but not for the Audi.
Now, other questions about the tool used to pull the
bearings:
1. First, what is a "blind bearing"? Tool options
indicate they pull internal blind bearings.
2. Any way to get the new bearing into its housing
without the need for the VW/Audi bearing puller
and replacement tool? Guy at the store said use
a large socket on the outer race. A 80mm+ socket?!?
The tool I'm looking at is one that inserts through the
bearing eye and then expands and then uses a slide hammer
approach to remove the bearing. Sounds dangerous. Problem
is it does not help on insert the bearing.
I want to find the tool before purchasing the bearings.
Can't afford to import the proper VW/Audi tool ($250) as
indicated on the list.
Thanks.
G.
