Manual tranny issues in a V8

Shayne:

I would certainly try AOA but due to a minimal infrastructure at corporate,
the dealers have a great deal of autonomy in the area of warranty repairs
so....it's one of those things that is a double edged sword as you can
potentially get help but only on a replacement part from the dealer+labor,
not any sort of repair of that part. We all are familiar with the cost of
those new parts. All this works best if you have a good relationship with
a particular dealer. Ahh, the problems of business are simply the problems
of people. At 140K and with the tranny at an independent facility, I would
assume you are on your own.

On the longevity of the transmission issue, I was at the SAE Show in
Detroit last week, stopped a the ZF booth and asked a rep that very
question. The official answer is that the life expectancy is related to
the drivers habits and care of the transmission. Unofficially, the auto
and manual tranny units were designed for a European driving cycle that
does not include as much stop and go driving as we do here in the states.
