TORSEN Center Differential

I was looking at several pictures of the TORSEN center differential for a
1989 200tq and counted what appears to be at least 5 bearings.  In the 4
months I've been on this list I've seen much discussion about pilot bearings
and carrier bearings; but haven't seen much about these bearings in the
TORSEN unit.  Of course, since I own such a car I started to imagine
nightmare scenarios.    What is the experience of listers with bearing
failure in the TORSEN differential for the 1989-1991 100 & 200 Quattros.
How common is failure and what are some typical repair prices.  Does anyone
know of a posted procedure for repairing the TORSEN?  Is this even
conceivably a DIY job?
