'93 S4 Stereo fitment

So a friend of mine needs to ditch his factory head unit (with Bose) out
of '93 S4, wants to replace it with an Alpine.

Any BTDT with
a) physical fit - i.e. is the stock hole regular DIN sized?
b) wiring - can he buy one of those easy wiring harness converter things
to snap in?
