Find a piece of .125" (3mm?) steel strap that's about 5" long and 1" wide ...
drill a hole in the center of it then position it over the idler and prop it
away from the block using two sockets of the same height. Drop an appropriate
size bolt through the hole (be sure to use a washer underneath) and thread it
into the center of the pulley. Put a wrench on the bolt (in my case, a socket
wrench wouldn't fit) then start tightening ... with luck, it should screw
right out.

It took me perhaps ten minutes to accomplish this, including finding the piece
of steel and drilling the hole in it. Also, remember NOT to use the 6mm bolt
that holds the pulley in place to pull the new pulley back into its recess
since it's guaranteed to break and ruin your day ... btdt.
