RE: UFO brakes
... if you're trying to talk yourself out of buying a car ... don't buy it!
Did you call Carlsen to see what the qlist price for rotors was (or shop
around anywhere else)? I'll be picking up a set of factory pads for my car
for $45 this weekend ... yes, it is from someone who bought them and no
longer needs them. Wolff has posted that the "unturnable" rotors can indeed
be turned. If you want the car you can find ways to deal with its
idiosyncrasies. I seem to remember people finding out that it was possible
to procure the conversion parts from UFOs to conventional rotors for
somewhere in that same ballpark.
... willing to live with my own aleins [sic] ... and hey, feel free to
spread the bad word on the UFOs ... it'll only help me get my cars for
cheaper (since resale value means nothing to me ... :)

Subject: UFO brakes
Thanks all for the wealth of info on these brakes. Mark Connors
even
sent a picture, so now I know what the aleins look like. BTW, I
checked
with the local dealer and prices are:
rotors: $425 each
pads $174 (4 pads)
that makes a front brake job $1024 minimum for a do it your selfer!
I
can justify it by subtracting my purchase price of $10,900 from the
origonal list of $42,000 and call it a mere pitance...
