Hi Sean;

    If your system is similar to my '91 200q, the air flap is positioned by
an electric motor mounted under a removable plastic housing on the left side
of the heater box. The motor contains a potentiometer which sends a flap
position signal back to the AC control head. I think your error code is
telling you it detects an open circuit in the potentiometer. I had a similar
error code on my car - a bit of troubleshooting revealed an intermittent
connection at the motor wiring connector. A bit of Stabilant 22A fixed the
problem.
