Soul for sale...
If anyone's buying souls this weekend, mine's for sale ... this evening, on
the way home from work, I was passed by a RHD Nissan Skyline registered on
Michigan manufacturer plates.
I ended up following the car for several miles, both on the freeway and on
side-streets, and by the time the driver finally pushed the pedal to the floor
and was gone -- literally! -- I realized that I haven't felt this excited
about a car since the first time I saw an Ur-Q in the flesh fifteen years ago.
I have no idea what it's going to cost me or how I will accomplish it but
someday, I *will* have one of these parked in my garage.
Until this evening, I had a mild case of S4 "jones" and had even started
scheming about how I could finance one but after seeing that Skyline -- in
bright red, no less! -- my lust for one has been quelled. Some people may
view the TT Coupe as the spiritual successor to the Ur-Q but in my book,
Nissan's stolen Audi's muse with the Skyline, just as they did with the Sentra
SE-R and BMW's 2002tii. I wouldn't cross the street for a TT but I'm prepared
to do whatever it takes, legally or otherwise, to get my hands on a Skyline
... what an amazing car.
That said, the wheels were a little clunky looking and I could probably do
without the SuperTouring car wing on the boot lid; also, the full-width
diffusers under the rear spoiler looked a bit OTT for a street car. But if
that's the way the car comes these days, then so be it. I didn't really like
the Ur-Q's rear wing the first time I saw it, either, but I've changed my mind
over the past decade-and-a-half and I'm sure the Skyline will look just right
in 2014. BTW, did I mention what an amazing car this is?
Oh, well ... I think I need to go take a cold shower and calm down. Imagine
what would've happened had I been able to drive it instead of merely chase
after it?!
