V8 Auto Tranny Woes

I have a 90 V8 with a auto tansmission. It started making a buzzing noise for a
couple of days, easily drowned out by the stereo. It seemed to go fine though,
until all of a sudden it started to buck when shifting and seemed to "slip"
out of gear when accelerating . I drove it home on the highway and it semed to
stay in 3rd at about 4000 rpm. No limp home mode on the tranny though? I f i
would give it a decent amount of gas the tranny would disengage and the engine
would rev. I t would take a few seconds for the thing to engage again. Any
BTDT? I brought it to the dealer and they said the first thing is the filter.
It makes a good amount of noise they said might be the pump cavitating from
lack of fluid. They said they have seen that before. I hope it is that. Ordered
a new one and am going to do that, but wanted to see others experiences with
these things. If it does need repairs anybody know a good shop in the Boston
area?
