In need of DESPERATE help!

Hi everyone,

I really need some help.

PROBLEM:
My car (84 4000s 2.2L 5cyl non quattro, non turbo) just dies at any
given moment (pretty dangerous). It used to have some sort of a 'hiccup
problem', when that disappeared, this new prob appeared. The hiccuping
started April 1998, this stalling started in Nov 1998. I think they are
one and the same, just getting worse. Now I do most of the work on the
car myself, including major stuff, so I know the car pretty well. My
mechanic and I have done all the basic tests with no real conclusions???

Basically, whether car warm or cold, outside warm (0 Celsius) or cold
(-35 Celsius), idling or driving (any rpm) it will just stall, no
chugging, just off, like pulling out the key. At this point I will have
to wait a minimum of 15 seconds before it will start. If I try before
the 15 second 'time limit', I will have to wait an additional 15
seconds! (talk about moody)

I've replaced and performed the following:
	new ignition wires
	new spark plugs
	new rotor for distributor
	new coil
	new fuel pump, and filter
	new fuel pump relay
	adjusted the fuel pressure
adjusted timing... basically checked out all the little things.

The other day, when it stalled, I checked for spark, there was, BUT
there was no fuel at the fuel distributor when turning the key?!?!?!
The fuel pump (new) was buzzing like normal. So what's the deal?? In
front of the fuel pump is the Fuel Accumulator. I figured this was
faulty. I called around for the part, its a dealer part. So I went
with my chequebook to the Audi dealer, told the guy I wanted a fuel
accumulator. He asked why, and said he'd never seen a fuel acc.
failing. He argued this point for 20 minutes saying he'd bet his life
that it's not the fuel acc. (Fuel Acc. = basically its a one way valve,
it opens when the pump pushes fuel at around 50 - 60 psi, when the car
is off > the pump turns off > the Fuel Acc closes and holds system
pressure to relieve the pump).

Any how, I'm stumped now, what do I do???? The car stalled on me 4
times this morning on the way to work, once leaving me in the middle of
a left turn in the middle of the intersection. Try explaining the 15
second phenomena to the angry motorists around me! The part is 130
bucks, not too bad, but do I need it? Have any of you ever seen a fuel
acc fail.

I'm not on the list anymore, so could you please email any replies to my

Thanks in advance everyone!
