My n/a coupe did this when I ran the spark plugs into the ground. Also
did it worse when the ecu relay went bad. Kind of a "limp home" mode,
at about 4 mpg! Could even be an intake manifold ecu ground for that
matter. Or a vacuum leak...
None of these cost $2k to fix but can be a pain to diagnose.
