I hope for your sake I'm wrong, but:
   1. the water pump o-ring will fail-I now pay >$2 at local VW dealer
   2. the water pump will fail
   3. you ARE low on coolant-the light may only come on when you change
state(accel,decel,turn)

Moral of the story: don't assume you know better, always replace everything
 whenever you are there.
