RE: Girling 60 conversion.
NOTE: The following is just MY opinion based on My experiences!
I have found the Metal Masters to be a very good compromise as far as street
pads go.
They out perform stock pads in all aspect except initial cold applications.
They are cleaner, quieter and cheaper.
I have installed hundreds of them and never had a comeback that was the
fault of the pads.
No they are not a good choice for track use or if you push the envelope on
the street a lot, they can't handle the heat that good track pads can. Most
people will never out drive them.
Since my experience is limited to VW/Porsche/Audi/BMW/MBZ's in the nice
Sacramento Valley climate in sunny California so these vehicles will not
likely have seen the extremes of cold and wet weather that others will see.
Like most any repair shop most of our customers cars were just
transportation. We did have a segment (mostly Porsche) that used their cars
on the track (time trails and drivers ed) and a lot Autocrossed. The MM were
OK for Autocross but did poorly at the track. Currently every car I own has
them in it except my Explorer (I tow my Porsche with the Audi never needs a
tow).
What else is out there for good street pads? I don't know I have never
looked since I'm happy with what I use.

My god! Everybody and their brother bitches about
MetalMaster....But I
never hear any alternatives. Something for all seasons, NOT for
track,
that doesn't wear out in a season and doesn't spray dust
everywhere.
Is there anything like that?

I'll second that! I'd also LOVE to hear some alternatives (I'm
putting MM's
on my G60's again now). They should not EAT the alloy wheels or the
rotors.
I DON'T mind alot of dust, as long as it doesn't eat the alloys
alive. I'd
also like it if they didn't cost $200 a set. Anything like that
available?
I've used Pagid (stock, I think), MM's, Rofren (ate my new Brembo
rotors
alive), and Raybestos semi-metallics (made in Canada).
