Speaker grill

Hi, a question...

What model and year speaker grill are the 'earlier Audis' referring to? 


   The front speaker grilles, as several of us have discovered, are less 
   than acoustically transparent. Solutions include: 
   a) replace them with aftermarket, 
   b) replace them with grilles from earlier Audis, which were made of 
   actual metal mesh with cloth inside them, 
   c) start poking out the holes from the back with a small pin
