Well, since you asked, Yes, it strikes me as odd that you would invest the
effort in stiffening the existing panhard rod rather than replace it with one
that has been properly designed.  After all, just how much lateral location
are you going to get from a rod that runs approx. 45 degrees to the centerline
of the car?  If you're really serious about this, take another look under the
car and consider remounting the panhard rod behind the axle, at 90 degrees to
the centerline of the car, like Audi did on the Type 44 chassis.

Hey, I'm glad it works for you.  I just don't think your solution is the best
solution, that's all.  Audi designed a LOT of compromise into the rear
suspension of these cars and I doubt they ranked performance on racing slicks
high on the list.  Still, if the sparks you saw were really coming from the
panhard rod, then I suspect the car was lowered waayyyy too much for optimal
performance given the OEM suspension design.  And if it was still using the
OEM design, then it probably wasn't getting the most out of the slicks,
either, since the camber and bumpsteer curves up front suck for 10/10ths track
use.

Like I said, I'm glad you're happy with it.  Frankly, I wouldn't have expected
otherwise since you probably would have put thing back the way they were if
you weren't, right?  That said, though, are you absolutely positive it's the
rear bar that's keeping your wheel planted or perhaps something else that you
did?
