re Air Intake Modifications

River6822@aol.com wrote about his planned air intake modification for an 88
80q, excerpted below

2. The flap that is inside this portion on the intake has a spring on it.
Its
normal position is static being a 50/50 mix of warm and cold air. When the
car
begins to move and collect more air through the "hood" it closes off the
warm
air passage.

**This I doubt. The spring should be temperature controlled so that at cold
temps all the air comes from the exhaust manifold shroud, and at hot temps,
all the air comes from the headlight area. The engine wants a specific
temp, the exact value of which I have forgotten.**

If anyone has any comments or input please e-mail me directly at

** I hope you don't operate your car in icing conditions. Moist air around
32F (0C) will ice your throttles and intake manifold if not modulated with
some heat. Suggest you find a way to block this additional air path in
adverse conditions. **
