guess I would have to start over!

I don't want to encourage you to blow your motor, BUT I would love to know how
high a good condition, higher mileage motor can rev. I once long ago traded
my brother in law a stock Chevy 454 auto for a 350 SBC with $3500 engine work,
even up, and it was his call. It just never ran right for him. I really
didn't KNOW what to do so I disassembled it, and reassembled it with new SOFT
parts (rings, bearings, gaskets, etc.). Didn't change anything, just measured
and installed everything VERY precisely, by the book. The SPED shop that did
the work, as I later found out, has excellent machinists and machines, but the
assembly and tuning sucked. He told me and my BIL, 6,500 rpm max, maybe 6750
rarely. Ha! It wouldn't even get there. I ran it just over 20k when I sold
the car. Once just over 8,300 rpm (I REALLY didn't want to lose that race),
and at least 100 times over 8k rpms.
So, sorry so windy, but I really would like to know what a realistic (not
conservative) rpm limit is. Any others out there who like to wind engines up
real high?
