At this time neither Bosch nor Audi recommends the +4s in the 10v turbo we
have in the U.S. It likewise appears that we do not have recommendations for
their use in the 20v either. With the sole exception noted by Phil Payne,
there are not ANY recommendations for using the +4s in turbo applications.
There ARE recommendations from Bosch and Audi with respect to the triples in
the 20v.
So I agree that he was mixing apples and oranges. The appearance was that the
post was, in effect, saying that experience and knowledge have no value with
respect to plug use. And that using platinum plugs, of any sort, in the turbo
applications is acceptable BECAUSE the triple plats work fine in the 20v. That
is flawed logic. We do not need people rushing out to use the +4s improperly.
There were already enough problems with the single electrode plats in the 10v
engines. Chief of which was the inconsistency of the feedback from turbo
owners. Some people seem to have gotten them to work, most didn't.
And, so far as I know, no one was "bashing" the new plats. My comment was to
wait until Bosch made a recommendation. Gary Lewis thought the post may have
been directed at him, but he seems likewise to be waiting on positive
experience (and/or a Bosch recommendation).
Whether the +4s will or will not work is yet to be seen. With the hit and
miss success so far, I'm like Gary -- use of +4s in the turbo cars is a no-
brainer. Let them alone for now. Personally, when/if Bosch has a
recommendation I'll probably still wait a while and let someone else do the
early tests. Kinda like letting someone else take the depreciation hit on a
new car....

	Later.
