V8 Antenna Question

or....What's the story, Mother?

In recent days, the driver's side antenna has refused to raise, leading
me to replace a fuse, which made the radio, et al work, but not the
antenna.  The passenger side antenna mast is already broken, so we now
have no antennas.  I ordered a generic Hirchmann replacement unit, but
it doesn't fit.  After peeling away the V8's venerable layers of
plastic/soundproofing I found a smallish antenna unit perched atop what
appears to be  the entire vacuum assist unit and labled prominently
"Audi 80".  What the hell is this?  Please don't tell me this is an
all-in-one unit!!  What about the other one - can this Hirschmann be
adapted to fit?  My V8 has a build date of 2/90 and does not have a
trunk mounted CD player, if that info is relevant.
