lifting power of new gas shocks
I used to look at _my_ car and wonder how others could even think about
wanting to _lower_ their '91 200q by 1 or 2 inches. Well, this weekend I
replaced the 105K mile-old OEM front shocks, and I discovered that this
raised my car by nearly a full inch at the front wheels.
With the new shocks (Boge Turbogas) installed, the height is now 15 3/8"
(center of hub to wheel arch). When I took the first drive following
installation, I was surprised at how the 1" change produced an immediate
sensation of "where did the road go?". I guess we can be pretty sensitive
to sudden, small changes in "attitude". Since I didn't expect a height
change, I didn't do a "before" measurement, but as I posted the other day,
there was roughly a 3/4" difference between the r and l sides after one
side was replaced.
