'91 200q I looked at
All,
Yesterday my wife and I looked over a '91 200q for sale. It had 116K on it.
It passes the 10ft test for looks. There wasn't any effort to steam clean
the engine compartment. I could see the petosin reservoir
was leaking but the rack looked dry. There appeared to be an oil leak from
the motor somewhere towards the front of the car. The engine oil was dirty
and had at least 3K miles on it. The exhaust looked solid enough.
The timing belt was never been replaced. I pulled back the cover and
could see the belt was cracked everywhere. I knew from that I wasn't
going to be driving the car home whatever the case. My wife drove it
first. The car died twice on her when coming to a stop. She'd push the
clutch in and the car's rpm would drop to idle then off. There was a work
order for a similar problem early in '98. No clue really but I wasn't too
concerned about it. When I drove the car it was smooth and well manored.
Pretty quick.
I only drove the car about 5-10 miles. The car was generally
solid, no rattles and the engine ran very well. Clutch felt fine too. It
looks like the car was never beat but it wasn't loved either. Service
records end at 71,000.
I'm going to have the local Audi dealer there do a purchase inspection. The
car looks a little too worn to simply go on my own brief inspection.
There are numerous dings, both bumpers have deep scratches, there are two
stone sized dings on the roof and a dent on the right rear quarter panel.
Two of the interior lights need replacing, the plastic clips have broken.
the seats are worn but not ripped. The passenger seat heater controls the
back seats and one side isn't working. Door switches work as does the multi
function indicator.
The wife factor is good. She likes the car. She is worried about the
stalling. It appears it would be a "project" car. Seeing how there was no
reciepts for any big ticket items other then the brakes I figure lots of
things will need replacing.
