Just exiting our dark period (the vernal equinox was yesterday) and
things are getting better.
However - the stock 90 amp alternator is definitely _NOT_ up to the task
of powering an ur-quattro with normal winter equipment and extreme
lights. The front bearing on mine is now rattling, and the unit will be
swapped out for a spare this very evening, with the original being then
rebuilt.
I won't be going to rebuild for increased current - the problem I see is
the mechanical effort required to generate the current being too much
for the front bearing. I'll replace that, and recycle it when the
'spare' shows the same symptoms.
