Bzzt. Mostly right. Not entirely. The ENGINE can handle about,
oh 16-20 psi or more with stock internals. Depending on who you believe
and what is changed. Key word, WHAT is changed.
You are Correct about the IC. 14psi will not only blow it apart
in time but it is not efficient enough to do 14psi and keep intake charge
temps at a reasonable level. To run more you need a better intercooler
probably of a single pass arrangement.
Also, to even run 13psi you need CPU mods. The stock CPU will cut
fuel at about 1.6 bar. So, to get 1.8bar (roughtly 13psi or so) then you
need a CPU and spring. Above and beyond this, above about 2.0 bar (14.7
psi give or take a bit) you need to do some fuel mods to keep it from
running lean as you said. But, the Factory CIS can (with mods) handle
2.5bar. At this point you run into pinging problems though and in
addition to a better IC to cool things down. You will probably blow
through your stock turbo or at least be ever running it and making it into
a Giant Heat Pump filling your motor with hot air. Hmm, more pinging.
So, for 2.5 you need a turbo, FI mods, Exhaust, IC, Chip, Spring, Blah
Blah, Blah. This is no mans land where most fear to tread. Progress with
caution. Few have experience here but some do. Get their experiences and
make sure their setup LASTS. :-) IE, no engine meltdown.

Yes, the bypass thing works. I recommend this for mild gains,
spring and chip for 1.8. For more than 1.8 you need a Chip with a bigger
pressure sensor and more programming to advance timing and stuff. I'm not
real familiar with this as I'm no computer programer. Thats what NED at
IA are for and also Scott Mockery who also is a local NW lister that does
chips. I'd say NED has more experience in the Ultra High HP arena but
Scott is a little better priced if you are looking for Mild gains. Thats
all I say. I suggest to you talk to them both. You can also talk to TAP
or others such as the Bennett Brothers if you want as they also have
chips. I just have the most experience with NEd and Scott. (usual
Disclaimers Yada Yada)
Oh, and Neds 5ktq actually has a 20v motor in it and it is
currently at about 420hp. It MOVES. 3.0 Bar, RS2 turbo, etc, etc. Neck
snapping power, CV joint exploding acceleration. :-) What is Gold BAR???
I'm not familar with that term.
Anyhow, I'll shut up now. I cant remember who the original poster
is but maybe theyll see this. If not, maybe you can send it to them. You
are basically right, I'm just expanding on what you said. Feel free to
correct, Yada Yada.
