Re: 1997 S6/S6 Wagon in the US ??also 97 S 6 for sale

Does anyone know for sure if they really produced and sold 1997 model year
S6's in the U.S. ?! >>
As far as I have been able to determine, the 95.5 car with the new stereo and
EDL driveline was the last except for a few 96 cars in California only. No
'97's.
this bring me to another point. A friend from Montreal has a 97 S6 sedan that
is coming off lease next month. The car has 34000 km on it and can be bought
for under $36,000 US. The car routinely travels between Montreal and Stowe, VT
so it can get here, but we don't know about importing it legally. If there are
any brave souls out there let me know and I'll put you in touch with him. He
could even go so far as to register the car in VT (the state only cares about
getting the tax money), but that's not to say the car is in the US legally.
Conceivably, if it went to Canada for a short visitand an over zealous border
person decided to run the VIN, the car could be impounded, even with a VT
title.
Or.........am I wrong about this? The car is a 97 with a build date of ,I
think 10/96 but it has 95 US DOT stickers on it. Don't know why they put those
on. Any ideas would be helpful.
