Advice on Chip Upgrade for Ur-Q

Some time ago I talked with Ned, who recommended that I upgrade my computer
to what I guess is that of an MC engine (1986 5KT or q or later), as well as
the matching harness and, if my memory is correct, the fuel distributor.
This was for my '83.

Does this advice hold true for the '85 as well?

If so, does this mean that I would be wasting my money by upgrading the
stock computer on the '85.

I know that there is a lot of practical experience out there, and would
really appreciate any input.
